A wonderful thing just happened here at the El Apartmento!
BEHOLD:
I got it halfway out of the package and I was giggling!
The Biker came over to see and his eyes lit up! I told him "I want you to be the first to go through this" because I love him 'n shit. And I handed it over.
Then I hung over him and was a nuisance until he read it.
If you are a fan of Bourdain, get this book IMMEDIATELY. It is pretty Bourdain(tm).
I read this book in one sitting and loved it. But honestly, I won't be cooking out of it right away.

Dear Mme. Arcati:
Elizabeth Davids' A Book of Mediterranean Food has just arrived yesterday and I cannot put it down!
I made her Pate of Chicken Livers this morning, and it is ASTOUNDING. The only thing I did differently was to use a Glad Reuseable
container instead of a small earthenware crock because I am plumb out of small earthenware crocks.
Note that I could not wait to try out these recipes. What a stellar recommenation this was!
Thank you!!!

I love pate, but the only time I made it, it was incredibly labor intensive and so I realized what I really love is pate made by somebody else.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Anthony Bourdain's book cover feature a very angry Mr Potatohead about to bite a punk devil-clown's head off? Is it a recipe illustration??
ReplyDeleteLOL. Subjective art. I long ago nicknamed Anthony Bourdain, the Rebel Chef.
DeleteI have this book. I think I have all his books. I think the Carrot-Daikon slaw is in this one. We love it. It's a nice palate cleanser with a bigger meal especially in the summer. Also a refreshing summertime snack when you're only kinda hungry and not totally hungry.
ReplyDeleteI liked Bourdain and his Style, sad about how he left this Realm. I would think his Cookbook would infuse his Essence into it and so I googled it and from the Photos of a few pages, I can see he didn't disappoint. I might have to get me that one for The Library.
ReplyDeleteI hadda have it so popped over to E-Bay and Scored it on a Buy-It-Now Feature... see what you've done... contributing to my delinquency and Book Obsession... and I don't even Cook! *Bwahahahaha*
DeleteGot the Book, thanks for the critique, it's worth it for the Pixs alone even if the Recipes aren't. *LOL*
DeleteI am a lazy cook - you are wasted on me!

Gosh I feel honoured to be mentioned in your Blog and so pleased that you love Elizabeth David. You only have another 11 books to find.
ReplyDeleteI was in shock when I went to check my reference catalogue to see which Anthony Bourdain books I had. I knew I didn’t have many but in fact I have None.
He was significantly more popular and influential in the USA than in the UK but I liked him a lot.
I will have to remedy this sad omission ; I can't let the side down.
Bourdain was a chef that wrote cookery books
Elizabeth David was a cooker writer.
I enjoy the different approaches and different backgrounds
Erratum -
DeleteElizabeth David was in fact a cookery writer and not as written 'a cooker writer'.
I did have an early Graham Kerr book and I have Clarissa D-W's biography and a couple of others, including my NY friend's first book.I'm not a "serious" cook these days, but some cooks (most cooks) are good writers.
ReplyDeleteThis could become a cookery-bookery meme!
